Tapinella atromentosa Velvet Rollrim
Found on the dead wood of conifers, solitary or in fairly tight groups. This is a large fungus reaching up to 300mm across, Initially convex, subsequently flattening before becoming centrally depressed. The caps suede-like appearance exhibits varying shades of matt brown and has an inrolled margin. The thick stem
is excentric, downy, then coarsely velvety, olivaceous, dark brown or black & rooting. The gills are crowded, decurrent, forked, light cream darkening to ochre & spotted red/brown. The cap flesh is white, and in the stem is cream/buff.
The spore print is red-brown.
The spores are ellipsoid and smooth
