SPOT THE BEE FLY ETC. ETC. UPDATE 19th JUNE 2023

Hello again, - well, it actually rained here yesterday evening, but you would not have known it this morning for the soil had already dried up. I am constantly looking for insects to photograph but having limited success so far. However, it seems that Ken Crick and Alan Meeks have been a bit lucky with their beetles as below. I’m not sure what Alan’s specimen is, - presumably a Chafer, - your help please! Really good quality photos from both gents.

“Mike, This Beetle flew in our lounge last evening, crashed into a very dusty shelf and later dropped onto my desk.

Perhaps it's a Cockchafer May Bug but it doesn't seem to have the white triangles along the side as described here. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vr4qyOCJvQQ&list=TLGGGZEpaCFDShsxNDA2MjAyMw&t=6s

Also the wing covers and the colour differ from the one shown in the video.

Can you enlighten me please? Regards, Alan.”

“Hi Mike. Please find attached two different Lesser Stag Beetles that turned up in our garden. Regards, Ken.”

Many thanks to Alan and Ken, we need more contributions please, in the meantime I will be trying to have something ready for inclusion. I took the Red Kite photos from our garden, I don’t think I have shown them before, - then once again this year with had a huge influx of Starlings over a period of three days or so, they were everywhere along with some hungry youngsters, they emptied our half coconut of fat in about 40 mins maximum.

The Collared Doves landed on next door’s TV aerial:

Whilst I was trying to photograph the Blue Tailed Damselfly on our pond, this Siskin landed onto the surface weed in the small pond:

I did manage to find a couple of insects, the green one is a Female Thick Legged Flower Beetle (verified by Bernard), however, I have no idea what the second one is, - not a particularly good photo, but the front end is reasonably sharp….. Any suggestion anyone please?

That’s all we have for this time, - Irene has told us that she has received a good response to her invitation to her garden party on Saturday 1st July, if you are intending to join in then please let Irene know so that she can plan accordingly.

All for now.

Regards to all,

Mike and Jenny
